Highlighted, but seemingly little noted in Pres Obama’s exec actions in the wake of Sandy Hook school shootings, was this policy initiative to strength the presence of trained, armed forces in the schools:
From whitehouse.gov:
“On January 15, 2013, Vice President Biden delivered his policy proposals to President Obama. On January 16, 2013, the President put forward a specific plan to protect our children and communities by reducing gun violence.”
An excerpt from that speech:
“School resource officers are specially trained police officers that work in schools. When equipped with proper training and supported by evidence-based school discipline policies, they can deter crime with their presence and advance community policing objectives.”
Certainly, a question here is was this an appropriate use of such an officer to deal with an in-classroom discipline matter?
Another, why so little attention to an action putting such resources in the schools - clearly they are there, even if they may being used for other purposes than dealing violent attacks?
